Collagen And All The Hype

 

I recently started adding collagen to my shakes and I thought I would share some insight on the benefits of collagen and how it can boost our health! (I’ve been hearing things about it for FOREVER and it turns out… it’s for a good reason) HA!

 

Collagen is the human body’s most abundant protein, making up around 30% of our total protein content. It ensures the integrity, elasticity and strength of our body’s connective tissues and thus maintaining the form and function of our skin, cartilage and bones. HOWEVER, as we get older our body produces less and less of it so supplementing it with Collagen Peptides is so important! 

 

Below are some basic benefits of collagen 🙂  

 

Improves Skin and Hair: Collagen provides amino acids that can be used to build hair, help fight damage to hair follicles, help prevent hair thinning and can even help slow the graying process. As the collagen production in our body dwindles, wrinkled and thin skin can occur. Adding more collagen helps with the elasticity of our skin! It helps the skin cells renew and repair themselves. 

 

Repairs Joints:  Collagen stimulates cartilage growth and as a result of low collagen production- tendons and ligaments stretch/ bones rub against each other causing pain. (obviously preventing a plethora of potential oral issues…. I always have random teeth issues SO I like this reason haha)

 

Helps detox: Being rich in the amino acid glycine, collagen stimulates stomach and acid production which improves digestion and helps your body retain more nutrients from foods.

 

Reduce cellulite and stretch marks: As I mentioned before collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body that is found in bones, muscles, tendons and skin. Despite the fact that you can’t prevent stretch marks on the outside.. you can help prevent them from the inside with collagen. Collagen can help strengthen the connective tissues of the skin helping the elasticity and slowly fading those stretch marks/cellulite! 

 

While I think some of these wellness trends are just trends and honestly may be gone by this time next year.. I definitely think Collagen is here to stay (like acupuncture). I have already noticed a difference in my skin and I know it is doing wonders for my body!
